Elon Musk’s Opinion Of The Chevrolet Bolt

In a recent presentation at the Detroit Auto Show, Chevy announced that they were working on an electric vehicle that would be on the market soon. It would cost $30,000, go 320 kilometres on a single charge and be available in 2017. We also saw the Chevrolet Bolt, a concept that supposedly looks like the upcoming electric vehicle.

What does Elon Musk think of all this?

First of all, he said that Chevrolet’s announcement came with lots of small asterisks: that $30,000 starting price includes a rebate from the US government, so we are actually looking at a $37,500 car. As for his own low-priced electric car, the Model 3, Mr. Musk said that his starting price of $35,000 was before those rebates. Our Canadian incentives are different, of course.

Tesla’s CEO also gave his opinion of hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles; according to him, the energy source is not efficient enough, dangerous to use in a vehicle and extremely inflammable.

Finally, he also said that he had the intention of remaining as Tesla’s CEO for life. However, Mr. Musk mentioned that if his battery manufacturing plant in Nevada couldn’t drive the price of battery packs down, his board of directors should definitely fire him.
