Hyundai Santa Cruz: For the Millennials

Hyundai unveiled a daring concept at the Detroit Auto Show that, if it were produced, could launch a new market: the Santa Cruz, a small and stylish truck for the city.

While it looks like a two-door truck, the Santa Cruz features a rear-hinged set of doors behind the front ones. Inside, a rear bench complements the front bucket seats.

The truck’s bed can be extended by a few centimetres if the owner temporarily needs more space. Fully extended, the vehicle is as spacious as a mid-size truck, according to Hyundai.

The Santa Cruz Concept is powered by a turbodiesel mill developing 190 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, and features all-wheel drive. Since it is a vehicle tailored for urban use, its towing capacity, payload and ground clearance were not the main concerns.

The manufacturer has not commented on whether or not there will be an eventual production version.
