News For The Pentastar

Chrysler’s Pentastar engine arrived with perfect timing: it replaced a many sub-par V6 engines in the FCA lineup, from the 2.7 to the 3.3 and the 4-litre. All these have now been replaced by the new and improved 3.6-litre Pentastar V6.

A recent report states that Chrysler’s engineers are currently modifying the Pentastar to make it even more competitive: starting next year, it will gain direct injection, and a few changes that are designed to accommodate turbocharging.

According to the manufacturer, different iterations of the V6 will be built for their vehicles: first of all, an updated 3.6-litre will be launched in the 2016 Grand Cherokee (which will also receive a facelift).

Then, the next iteration of the Town & Country, stated to launch in 2016, will feature a 3.2-litre engine and a nine-speed transmission. This should give it a 25% improvement in fuel economy.

Later on, we can expect to see some turbocharged Pentastars under the hood of larger vehicles, in an effort to improve fuel economy. Who knows, maybe the next RAM will follow its rival F-150’s Ecoboost into the turbocharged era?
