2016 Jaguar F-Type Gets A Stick And A Clutch

If you love to row your own gears, this is for you. The rumours were finally confirmed at the Los Angeles Auto Show: the Jaguar F-Type will get a six-speed manual transmission!

A few notes: it is only available on V6-equipped models (according to our sources, the V8 is too powerful and would shatter the clutch), the gear ratios are designed especially for spirited driving and the pedal placement is ideal for heel-and-toeing. This gearbox is also only available with rear-wheel drive.

Which brings me to my second point: debuting next year, the sleek English roadster will be available with all-wheel drive. Optional on the V6 models and standard on the more powerful V8-engined cars, this system sadly can’t be paired with the new manual gearbox, once again for fragility reasons. With AWD, the 8-speed automatic gearbox is your only choice.

The V8S version has been axed, which means that the only V8 remaining will be found in the R model. With its supercharger and its 550 horsepower, it can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Finally, the hydraulically-assisted steering has been replaced by an electric unit. This is usually not something that we endorse, but since the hydraulic one in the F-Type was less than perfect, we are willing to give it a try.

With these changes, the F-Type just became even more enticing.
