Volkswagen Wants To Broaden The R Lineup

In a recent interview, Volkswagen's director of engine and drivetrain development, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, mentioned that he was open to the idea of creating more cars bearing the R badge.

According to him, the success of the Golf R could translate to more vehicles. He goes on to say that even if it would be theoretically possible to build a high-performance version of all their cars, this would dilute the R name. Furthermore, some of them would probably not sell that well.

So far, the German manufacturer has three models in mind: the Polo, a subcompact hatchback that we don't get to enjoy here, and the Passat. So we just might end up with a high-powered German midsize eager to compete with... With what exactly?
