The Next Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG Will Have a V8

With the industry’s tendency to downsize their engines to meet stringent environmental restrictions, we sometimes have some bad surprises when a new version of a beloved car is announced.

Take the new C-Class Mercedes-Benz, for example. It rolled out a few months ago, and with no mentions of the C63 AMG, we were worried that the V8 option would not come back. It would have been simple for M-B to take the excellent twin-turbo V6 in the C400, crank it up a few notches and call it a day. This would have been a dramatic loss for the performance world however, since the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 in the current C63 AMG is a wonderful piece of machinery. It pumps out 507 horsepower, can get the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and offers one of the best engine soundtracks in the business.

In a recent press release, Mercedes-AMG reassured us, saying that even if the 6.2 was phased out, the V8 option in the C-Class hot-rod was there to stay. The new mill will be the twin-turbo, 4 litre V8 that we saw in the Mercedes-AMG GT earlier this month. Since we know that it can produce at least 510 horsepower (and that it sounds like the shouts of an angry demon while doing so!) we can be sure that the next AMG C-Class will be able to happily burn through a set of expensive rubbers.

RacingMercedes-AMG GT3 : Use Fear On Your Opponents
In every competition, if you can demoralize your adversaries, you start with an undeniable advantage. If they fear you, a huge percentage of their fighting spirit simply won't be there. That's obviously what Mercedes-AMG had in mind when they created the GT3: if you were to see one coming up …
