Mercedes-Benz Cleans Up Its Lineup

We know that German automakers are not known for their simplicity: as soon as they have the opportunity to do something complicated, they go nuts. Whether it's in their mechanics, their electronics, their options or even the name of their cars, you usually need an instruction manual to make sense of it all. For example, if I tell you about an S-Class W140 and the W128 220a, do you have any idea what I am talking about?

To help buyers differentiate between their multiple models, Mercedes-Benz will change the name of their SUVs to match them with their sedan line.

First of all, the GLA will retain its name, since it is based on the CLA. The GLK will become the GLC, since it is the entry-level model in the lineup, just like the C-Class is in the sedans.

The M-Class will lose its long-standing name to become the GLE to match the E-Class. The GLC concept that was unveiled will become the GLE Coupe. Finally, the biggest SUV of the lineup, the GL, will be known as the GLS, which stands for the S-Class of their truck lineup...

Simple, no?
