2015 Chevrolet Corvette: Now Fuel-Efficient?

You read the title of this article correctly: with the all-new 8-speed automatic transmission, the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette is now somewhat fuel-efficient, returning 8.1L/100 km on highway.

These numbers are not only better than its competition (like the Porsche 911 Carrera, the Audi R8 V8, the Jaguar F-Type R and the Nissan GT-R, among others), but GM was very proud to tell us that their Corvette is now more efficient than a six-cylinder Subaru Outback, a Passat or even the Mercedes-Benz C350 Coupe.

This new transmission is also faster than the six-speed it replaces: 0-100 km/h times have dropped to 3.7 seconds, and the quarter mile now takes only 11.9 seconds, an improvement of 0.1.

The 8-speed box also allows for a lower differential ratio (2.41 instead of 2.56), which certainly helps the car get those low fuel consumption numbers. The Z51 package still retains the 2.73 gearing, and the 0-100 time was recorded with this model.

Those who prefer to row their own gears will be happy to know that the 7 speed manual should offer around the same numbers.
