Icon Wants to Create a Tesla-Powered Streamliner
Icon, a restoration shop in the USA, has made itself a reputation over the years by creating modern iterations of older vehicles. They started by taking old Ford Broncos and completely rebuilding them with modern components. They then made the Derelict, an old, rusty and battered 1950’s Chrysler with a 6.1L Hemi engine lurking under its long hood!
Now, they want to try their hands at creating a vehicle from scratch, and they will draw their inspiration from the most beautiful cars of the forties.
This project is named the Helios, and personally, I think it is one of the most beautiful concepts ever drawn up.
John Ward, owner of Icon, took his inspiration from an era that never was: if Black Friday, the stock market crash and the Second World War never happened, what would the cars have looked like back then?
Just about any engine would have been great in this car, but the designers want to use a drivetrain as unique as their concept: the one from the Tesla Model X. This would make it all-wheel drive, and give it truly electrifying performance!
For now though, the Helios only exists in drawings. Its construction is unsure yet, because Icon will have to find a buyer first. And since this is a very ambitious project, you can bet it won’t be cheap.
