Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe announced

Those currently in the market for a luxury car don't exactly have the same priorities as regular car-shoppers do. They don't need an economical or easy to maintain vehicle, they have money for that. For them, image is important. So even if the new S63 AMG Coupe is already very powerful, it wasn't luxurious enough, being powered by a plebeian V8. For those people, Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled the S65 AMG Coupe.

This model will replace the CL65 launched in 2003, and features the same engine that car did, a 621 HP and 738 pound-feet of torque (!) twin-turbo V12. With so much power, we can predict that the S65 will be fast. Even if the AMG Coupe is not available with 4MATIC, it still gets from 0 to 100 in 4 seconds flat, .2 faster than the V8-powered version. This V12 is at least trying to be fuel-efficient, with a Start-Stop function.

The rest of the car is pretty much the same as the ''regular'' V8 models, which means the 7-speed automatic transmission, the sport suspension with MAGIC BODY CONTROL (that tilts the car when you enter a turn), a road-scanning front camera, 20-inch AMG wheels, ceramic brakes with yellow calipers and the Burmester sound system will all be offered, among other things

You can order your Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe in the coming days, and North-American dealerships should receive the first ones before the end of 2014. Official pricing has not been announced, but in Germany, it starts at 244,000 Euros, which is about $357,000 of our Canadian dollars...
