Unintended Acceleration Plagues Some Jeeps

The Great Spring of Recalls just struck again, this time choosing a familiar victim: Chrysler. Specifically, some of the manufacturer’s SUVs are targeted by this recall.

A total of over 6000 vehicles, including the 2014 Dodge Durango, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2014 Jeep Cherokee will have to be repaired by dealerships. A small bug found its way into the adaptative cruise control’s computer. The result is a problem known intimately by Toyota owners: unintended acceleration. If said cruise control is activated and the driver accelerates, the car may decide to keep going faster and faster even when the pedal is no longer depressed! This can cause an accident if the driver is distracted or surprised.

The repair however is very simple: dealers only have to reprogram the computer. The manufacturer should start issuing letters to concerned owners right away.

In the meantime, always be aware when driving, because even if you have an intelligent cruise control, it can still make dumb mistakes!
