Chevrolet Corvette Z06: Even More Powerful Than we Thought!

When Chevrolet launched the Corvette Z06, they were deliberately vague about the power output, simply announcing ‘’over 625hp’’. However, we knew the car had easily bested the C6 ZR1's lap time at the Milford Test Center, and the ZR1 had a very respectable 638 horsepower.

The exact numbers just came up, and power-hungry customers will be happy to learn that the Z06 Corvette will pump out 650hp and 650 lb-ft. of torque, officially becoming the most powerful production vehicle ever made by GM.

The press release gave a few points to put things in perspective: the Corvette’s LT4 engine produces 90 horses and 143 pound-feet of torque more than the Porsche 911 Turbo S. It also produces 28 percent more torque than Ferrari’s V12 engine.

A quick study of the dyno graph shows some truly impressive facts: at 1500 rpm, there is already 500 lb-ft. being sent to the rear wheels. Maximum torque is achieved at 3600 rpm, and stays over the 600 mark all the way to 5800 rpm, where the horsepower really kicks in.

Now that Chevrolet has shown its hand, the competition will have to cough up some numbers soon. Dodge still has not announced the power output of the Challenger SRT8 Hellcat, and Ford is unusually silent about an eventual Shelby GT500...
