2015 MINI Cooper 5 Door Unveiled

Since the sixties, MINI has built small, lightweight cars with the handling of go-karts. But ever since the Germans bought the company, their cars have tended to be fatter. However, the sharp handling and peppy engines remained unchanged.

With the latest generation (which is even heavier), MINI also wants to simplify its lineup, which has grown complicated over the years.

With this in mind, MINI just unveiled their new offering: a 5 door Cooper. The new car is 72 mm longer, offers more legroom, 15 mm more headroom and 67 more litres of storage in the rear hatch compared to the coupe version.

The rest is the same MINI Cooper we know and love, with its 3 cylinder engine making 136 hp or its 192 hp 4 cylinder in the S version, both paired to a manual 6-speed transmission. The press release mentioned two excellent diesel models, which of course we won't have.

The 5 door has new shocks, new springs and different traction control settings to adapt the car to its new size.

While no price range has been given, this car could offer a nice alternative for those who want a fun, small hatchback, but don't want to climb into a Countryman or a Paceman...
