2014 Best Buys: GTs/Sport Performance Cars

Not everyone can afford a Ferrari or Lamborghini, but we can all afford to dream! That’s why the Car Guide ranks the best Grand Turismos (GTs) and Sports Performance Cars every year.

We’ve lumped together two very exclusive categories of vehicles: GTs and Sports Performance cars. GTs are very powerful, very comfortable and luxurious coupes that can blast down the German Autobahn at crazy speeds for hours on end. While Sports Performance cars are also tremendously powerful coupes that can tackle the Autobahn, they are also in their element on the track. Some Prestige vehicles also meet these criteria, but they tend to be sedans. Regardless, all of these vehicles are astronomically expensive.

Our first choice is the 2014 Audi R8, a fabulous roadster with solid handling, super powerful engines and an automatic transmission that lives up to the vehicle’s reputation. Plus, its price is perfectly justifiable—if you can justify that kind of spending!

Second place goes to the 2014 Ferrari 458 Italia, a race car made for the open road and whose engine rumble during acceleration will bring tears to your eyes. Speaking of acceleration, it would be hard to ask for more. This car is costly, but it’s not like a few tens of thousands of dollars are going to stop us from buying it, right?

Third in the trio is the 2014 Porsche 911. While it doesn’t have the same panache as the 458 Italia, it is nonetheless a sacred beast with an incredibly rich history behind it. As an added bonus, it is very reliable.

Even though the cars in this category are out of reach for the common man, its scope is very large and includes: the 2014 Aston Martin DB9 / Vanquish and Vantage, 2014 BMW 6 Series, 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, 2014 Ferrari California / F12 and FF, 2014 Jaguar XK, 2014 Lamborghini Aventador and Gallardo, 2014 Lotus Evora, 2014 Maserati Gran Turismo, 2014 McLaren 12C, 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL Class / SLS AMG, 2014 Nissan GT-R 2014 and SRT Viper.

So start saving your pennies for an R8. Or a 458 Italia. Even a little Evora.
