Ford Adds a Smokescreen Feature on the 2015 Mustang

To celebrate Earth Day, Ford unveiled a feature on the 2015 Mustang that is sure to cause a tantrum among ecologists: the Line Lock system, which is essentially a burnout mode.

Included in the Track Apps package, this system is easy to use: you activate it through the dashboard computer and the front brakes lock up while allowing the rear wheels to spin freely. You only have to floor the throttle, and Voila! You are now turning an expensive set of tires into white smoke!

Ford mentions in the press release that this function is for Mustang owners who like to take their car to the drag strip. You frequently see dragsters with a Line Lock at the track, because they have to do a little burnout in order to heat up the rear tires for optimal grip. However, unless your car is shod with drag slicks, heating up a street tire is pretty much useless.

So the real target audience here is people like you and me, who like the smell of burnt rubber in the morning! Thank you Ford!
