2014 World Car of the Year Finalists Have Been Announced

The 2014 World Car of the Year finalists have been announced. Starting from an initial list of 28 contenders, that list was narrowed to 12 and now just three cars remain for the overall title: Audi A3, BMW 4 Series and Mazda 3. Many thought the BMW i3 had the best chance, but it didn’t even make the final three.

There are also four sub categories for this award. Here they are with their respective finalists:

World Luxury Car of the Year: Bentley Flying Spur, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

Performance Car of the Year: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Ferrari 458 Speciale, Porsche 911 GT3.

World Green Car of the Year: Audi A3 Sportback G-Tron / Audi E-Gas, BMW i3, Volkswagen XL1.

World Car Design of the Year: BMW i3, Mazda3, Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

The annual award is decided by a total of 69 journalists from 22 countries and will be announced April 17 at the New York Auto Show.
