Fiat-Chrysler Studying RWD Platform For Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Dodge

Chrysler is studying the possibility of rear and all-wheel-drive platforms for Chrysler, Dodge and Alfa Romeo according to a new report by automotive news.

Currently, Alfa Romeo doesn’t offer any AWD vehicles but it seems the company would like to change that, by making one for the mid-sized Giulia sedan and another flagship full-sized model. The platform would also be used to replace the current Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger full size sedans in North America.

The project is only in the beginning stages and they are trying to determine its feasibility. If given the go ahead, the first models could be ready by the end of 2015.

Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said earlier this month that Fiat is working on future Alfa models. He has had Fiat searching for a suitable RWD platform for Alfa Romeo since he joined the Italian automaker nine years ago.
