Hyundai Canada reduces price, increases content of all-new 2012 Accent

Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced today the starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the all-new 2012 Accent has been reduced versus the outgoing model while content and technology have been significantly increased. Pricing for the 2012 Accent begins at $13,199 for the four-door model (a $1,100 reduction versus 2011) with $1,500 in added standard equipment. The 2011 three-door model has been replaced by a new five-door model for 2012 that, despite $1,440 in added standard equipment, maintains a starting price of $13,599. Regardless of body style, all 2012 Accent models combine Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture styling with a full complement of standard safety features and the best highway fuel economy in the subcompact class.

The starting L trim features a long list of standard equipment including a 6-speed transmission, trip computer, power door locks, six airbags, stability and traction controls systems, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. Moving up to the GL package adds air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power heated mirrors, and steering wheel audio controls among others. The top-spec GLS trim includes features such as a sunroof, six-speaker stereo system, Bluetooth, heated front seats, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Class-leading power and fuel economy

The 2012 Accent’s all-aluminum 1.6-litre Gamma 4-cylinder engine utilizes the latest technology to deliver a class-leading 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque in addition to a best-in-class 4.8 L/100 km highway fuel economy rating. Unlike competitors which charge extra for a special package that maximizes fuel economy, all versions of the Accent deliver the same class-leading fuel economy. The most notable feature of Accent’s new engine is its application of Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), a first for the subcompact category. By precisely controlling the injection of fuel, GDI allows for better fuel economy, increased power, and reduced emissions. The standard 6-speed manual and available 6-speed automatic transmission feature well-spaced ratios for smooth and efficient power delivery.

Safety as atandard- because it just makes sense

Hyundai doesn’t believe that consumers should have to pay a premium for safety, so a long list of safety features are included as standard equipment on all 2012 Accent models. For example, Accent is the only car among subcompact competitors to offer active front head restraints and four wheel disc brakes as standard. All models also feature an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist (BA) for confident stopping ability. A total of six airbags protect occupants in the event of a collision, including two front impact airbags, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and curtain side-impact airbags for front and rear passengers. Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Traction Control (TCS) work together to help deliver confident handling in all conditions.

Spacious, well-appointed cabin

Choosing a subcompact no longer means foregoing comfort and convenience features. While the car’s exterior dimensions are consistent with those of traditional subcompacts, Accent is classified by Transport Canada as a compact due to its large interior volume. Power door locks, standard on all Accent models, can be paired with the convenience of available power windows, remote keyless entry, and power heated mirrors. A 4-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with iPod/USB/AUX ports is standard equipment. Customers can opt for a 6-speaker, 172 watt AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system featuring Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and steering wheel audio controls. Cruise control, air conditioning, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and a power sunroof are all available.

Attractive design

In a segment typically associated with staid designs, the 2012 Accent stands out from the crowd. Accent joins the Hyundai line-up sporting the company’s increasingly popular Fluidic Sculpture design. The vehicle’s exterior lines are intended to be futuristic, dynamic, and sleek. While the styling provides an attractive form, it’s also functional, featuring a slippery 0.30 coefficient of drag. For an assertive stance, 16” alloy wheels are available.
